Thomas Pell Canoe Cleanup on
International Coastal Cleanup Day
Join our annual Thomas Pell Cleanup in conjunction with International Coastal Cleanup Day. Participants will canoe up the Hutchinson River while helping remove trash and debris from the shoreline and surrounding marsh areas, making a direct impact on the health of this important urban waterway.
This unique cleanup gives volunteers the opportunity to experience the beauty of the river from the water while learning more about the environmental challenges facing the Hutchinson River ecosystem and the efforts being made to restore it.
After the cleanup, head over to Viva La Sound on City Island to connect with other environmental organizations and community groups working to restore and protect the Bronx and waterways throughout New York City. It’s a great opportunity to continue the day by learning about local conservation projects, meeting like-minded people, and celebrating the work being done to improve our environment.
Thomas Pell Wildlive
Join a volunteer cleanup! By working together to remove trash in water and along the shoreline, we can create a healthier river and ecosystem. Cleanup events are a fun way to meet like-minded people who share a vision for a cleaner, healthier river.

October 4, 9:00 am-1:00pm
Sandford Sweep Cleanup
This unique cleanup gives participants the opportunity to make a direct impact on the health of the Hutchinson River while experiencing the ecosystem up close. Volunteers will help clean the shoreline and also enter the river wearing waders to remove debris directly from the riverbed.
By removing litter from both the water and surrounding shoreline, we can help improve water quality, protect wildlife habitats, and prevent debris from traveling further downstream. Whether you are a returning volunteer or joining us for the first time, your help makes a real difference in restoring and protecting this important urban waterway.
Waders and boots are available to borrow, but supplies are limited. Please email melissasw@hutchinsonriver.org ahead of time to reserve equipment and include your shoe size so we can ensure proper gear is available for you.
