Eco Tours on the Hutchinson River: History & Conservation

Writer: Hutchinson RiverHutchinson River

We’re excited to share an article from The Island Current, where Alice Schecter

recounts her late-summer journey with the Hutchinson River Restoration Project on our

new pontoon boat. Joined by Captain Don Kelly, First Mate Frank Williams, and guide

Amelia Zaino, Alice, and her group explored the river’s scenic beauty and captivating

history—from the heritage of the Lenape people to the days of Freedom Land and Co-Op City, to the ongoing conservation work our team is dedicated to.

While the 2024 eco-tour season has ended, we’ll resume next year, welcoming more

guests to experience this remarkable river firsthand. For updates and booking details, reach out via email at hutchinsonriver@gmail.com or check our website, www.hutchinsonriver.org.

To enjoy Alice’s full article, download a PDF version of The Island Current, attached below. Don’t miss this look into the past and future of the Hutchinson River!
