Rodman’s Neck Round Two: Still Dirty, Still Determined
Round two at the Rodman’s Neck / Turtle Cove section of the Hutch proved to be just as dirty as the first! This time, we focused on the smaller stuff—soft plastics, bottle caps, and the debris that gets tangled deep in the reeds.
We also came across an old dock flotation device and started breaking it down, only to realize it needed more time to drain. No worries—we’ll be back in the coming weeks to finish the job.
Luckily, the weather finally cooperated, and with a cool morning start, a team of 19 —made up of volunteers, children volunteers, staff, interns, board members, and even a few kind folks who were out fishing—tackled the shoreline together. By the end, we had removed 800 pounds of garbage from the riverbanks.
To all of our volunteers: we truly can’t do this without you. Your sweat equity and dedication bring us one step closer to a cleaner, healthier Hutchinson River. Thank you!
